I did some reels for Thys from Kuilsriver golf club and his mates this is from Marin Leroux. They have now all gone down to Henties Bay in Namibia.
I have done reels for 3 groups of guys that left and others are going down in the next few days.
Here is a Daiwa SL50SH and older but still immensely popular reel, here in SA and in Namibia and for good reason.
This model has a 4 ball bearing support train, all key areas that get loaded are supported by bearings with an extra bronze bush inside the spool tension knob area also supporting the spool, hence the 5 point support system like on the smaller Sl30 and 20Sh models also.
What do you get on the sl50sh, a graphite frame great for corrosion resistance, a spool made from aluminium designed for long casting with huge line capacity, a 5 drag stack inside the gear set up, a low slung gearbox to help prevent reel wobble, and gears that are quite robust. When this reel was lunched it was ground breaking at that time.
These reels are still manufactured today as they are great workhorses, reliable, last and will catch from a galjoen to a big bronzie. There are modifications i do to them to enhance performance like carbon fiber drag washers, power handles which most clients desire today. Jeffrey Slater landed a huge male bronze whaler male of over 180kgs on his sl50sh.
These ones i did needed some JJ TLC workmanship, they had corrosion and rust in places, the top drag metal washers were fitted upside down the top driveshaft bearing and bellevue tension washer assemblies were also incorrect.
None the less i am here to solve this type of issue and get them back with the tlc i give reels.
You can compare the before to after photos i am sharing to show the quality of my workmanship and level of skill often required to revive some hairy reels that i get to do.
