Jonathan's Reel Repairs ,Services & Upgrades Good morning All.
Please enjoy this post, kind regards Jonathan.
Good morning All.
I got these trinnie A reels to service, they were in need of some TLC.
Have a close look at how packed with grease they were, yet they were badly corroding, bearings rusting and the bottom driveshaft bearings were both seized and rusted stuck into the base plates. Getting those out without breaking anything proved a challenge.
Grease is not grease, the use of the correct grease and more importantly the correct base type is of paramount importance.
After freeing these bearings, next was on to handle shaft bearings it was much the same story here too. There was rust inside the anti reverse one way roller bearings, the spool bearings were damaged. Then look closely at how the right side spool bearings were changed before, see how the spool face and spool lips were damaged.
The Bellevue drag tension washers were fitted upside down on both these reels as well.
I am happy to report i managed to revive both reels successfully. Lots of skill and hard work later, the rust was removed, correctly treated and then correctly assembled with my TLC they felt and looked like different reels.
In terms of work remember to take your reels to people with the necessary skill, experience and passion to service your reels.
Being competent at what you do is essential. using the correct greases and oils are just as important.
Servicing is not just servicing, i see this all too often.
