Good morning All.

I got this Stella 5000SW from Yusuf Pandor from Durban to add some TLC.
The one side of the bail arm mount had some excess play, the reel was not as smooth as a stella can be on inspection and the drag was not a smooth he mentioned also.

So i stripped this reel sorted the bail arm play which was quite a job even with the new mount screw and bush from Shimano.

The reel had been serviced before, note the pinion gear and main gear on stripping the gear teeth are rather dry something i do not like to see. These items work the hardest in a grinder especially with spinning so the correct grease here is imperative.

I stripped the entire reel then ultrasonic cleaned it, then checked everything and started to assemble it again with my imported grease and oil.
The area at the handle knuckle was also treated where corrosion had started to set it. This will effectively solve this issue.

The drag was checked and then assembled with the correct grease as well. Do not forget to lube the bearings inside the stella spool itself and to lubricate the 2 line roller guide bearings, an item mostly overlooked.
Handle knob bearings were also lubricated to ensure smooth function and that corrosion does not end up creating havoc here also.

Using the correct grease on grinders especially these high end reels are essential, assembling them correctly even more so. The anti reverse roller bearing is a complex set up and are all loose parts so take extreme care here.

Remember grinders do require more care than multiplier reels so have them serviced on time to ensure these investments remain protected and that they do not fail with costly repairs.
